Travel Diary : Tokyo.
In the summer of 2024 I had the chance of a lifetime to accompany one of my best friends to the city she calls home -> Tokyo, Japan.
I stayed in Tokyo for two weeks and the trip was absolutely life-changing. I agree with every white man that has been on a guys’ trip to Japan . . . once you go to Japan it will become a major part of your personality and make you at least 10% more insufferable. Its been over a year since my trip and I still find a way to talk about it in any given conversation.
This is a collection of photos I shot on film while in Japan . . . enjoy!
I genuinely cannot explain how refreshing it was to experience this culture. Over the span of two weeks I witnessed so much. The food was amazing; Japanese BBQ is quite literally unmatched. The people were so kind, and I felt so safe. Feeling unsafe in a giant city is the normal being a woman, so that was definitely a surprise. I felt completely free to explore the city on my own, safely. I didn’t have to though because I had the best tour guide!
More pictures from my trip! Takeshita Street in Harajuku, nightlife in Shibuya, tokyo tower, and our trip to Sanrio Puroland! :)
One of my favorite places to explore was Harajuku. The energy there was so vibrant and I loved getting to explore every street. On Takeshita Street there is a famous crepe stand so of course I had to try one. Another favorite place of mine that I spent time in was Shimokitazawa. Essentially one of the hottest spots for vintage shopping! I loved how tightly packed the area was.
If you kept your eyes open, you could find an entire vintage store filled with absolute treasures, tucked away up some small staircase.
My favorite experience from the entire trip was the day we spent in Asakusa. Asakusa is well known for it’s historical architecture and showing the true old Tokyo. One of the most popular sights to see there is the Senesō-ji Buddhist Temple. When Miri and I got to Asakusa, we arrived in the morning and had an appointment to rent Kimono for the day! We both got to fully customize our own Kimono and pick the individual fabrics and accessories to go with it. It was so special!
After that, we spent the day exploring the area, spending time at the temple, and even having a rickshaw guided tour. I truly feel like I saw every thing there was to see!
photos from our magical day spent in ASakusa, wearing kimono and seeing the senso-ji temple.
It was the best two weeks of my life. Experiencing a normal life with my best friend in Japan, taking the subway everywhere, stopping at kombinis whenever, eating so much amazing food, and finally practicing my Japanese with fluent people… (I have a 1,286 day long streak on duolingo…)
Thank you, Miri for showing me your city ! !
I will be back soon !
