I-Spy : Walter Wick’s Creative World.

For my first blog post, I wanted to share with you someone who is of great artistic inspiration to me, Walter Wick. He is the photographic illustrator for the iconic I-Spy children’s books and has become a personal hero of mine.

When I was a kid, I would read any I-Spy book and become completely lost in his world on a single page. The effort put into creating these intricate worlds staged by Walter Wick is an art itself.

Every trinket, building block & hidden message, had a purpose and was placed there by hand. That is so fascinating to me!

A favorite image of mine by Walter Wick. I love the vibrancy and graphic quality of this one.

Another image from “I-Spy Fantasy” by Walter Wick. A personal favorite! The pointe shoes and tiny dancer and wand! Everything about it makes me so happy!

Walter Wick’s whimsical scenes allowed me to explore so many different mediums through his photography as I grew up. Each page was vastly different than the last, and none an afterthought.

Wick’s works inspire me to achieve a thoughtful maximalism in my art and personal style. To me, each I-Spy book feels like an explosion of curated chaos, color, and magic. I hope this website has a similar feeling to you all. :D

LOVE this blue shot. The highlights from the gold and crystal pieces are so nice on the eye! Does this picture remind you of the cover art for the Cocteau Twins’ album, Four-Calendar Cafe? ( Walter Wick photographed that cover! )

Throughout my site I included personal artifacts and photos, trinkets, and random objects that exist in my own bedroom.

I’m so proud of how the collages on the home page and explore page turned out and tried my very best to emulate a page out of an I-Spy book in the way I styled and designed them!

I can only hope Walter Wick would be proud…
